I mean I have basically set a name for myself based of my taste in fashion but just looking back to my high school and even some of my collegiate years I dont know what the f@!K I was thinking, lol. But, my style is very simple and set now. For years sneakers have been my passion to me that is the foundation of any outfit. I put a lot of effort and research into all my sneaker purchases and everything else after that falls into place. Nike of course is my 1st choice! I keep it simple after finding the right sneakers. From that point with tees sometimes they can be "loud" which grabs a lot of attention and comments. Unfortunately, thanks to Myspace and seeing people on the streets my style has been described as "retro". And this is the last thing I associate my style with but, I guess the loud tees and classic kicks sometimes leave the wrong impression to the masses.

In the streets...
I just got back on my Jordan craze (retro of course the new ones are garbage). But, various Nike styles preferrably Dunks, Vandals and Blazers which are my favorites. Other than that A.L.I.E.N., Polo and Mighty Healthy are usually my tops with Levis for denim.

Damn right I'm an NYSD Sweetheart because exploration makes me unique. The females have been drawn to me because when I stand in the club next to these dudes I stand out!

Although this Fashion Week designer Luella Bartley displayed a more withcy influenced collection, she loves the kids! Available for retail April 1, 2008, Luella has teamed up with Tonic to design a limited edition series of four t-shirt's whose proceeds will benefit children in needy countries.

Murakami LOVES Brooklyn! And Brooklynites will love him right back as he brings more than 90 of his beloved pieces for exhibit to the Brooklyn Museum from April 5, 2008 - July 13, 2008 (Eastern Parkway location across from Prospect Park). The star studded gala is set to take place at Sotheby's on April 3, 2008 with Jay-Z serving as the Auction Co-Chair and a mini concert performance from Kanye West. Starting tomorrow the new "Gucci Loves NY" campaign will be underway hitting bus stops, taxis and phone booths. The campaign even includes a contest where participants are asked to tell what they love. A great way to keep fashionistas anticipating the grand opening of the Gucci NY flagship store. Here's the official contest information:

"Gucci Loves NY, What do you Love?" Contestants are asked to submit a photo of themselves with a Gucci accessory at their favorite New York City location, along with a short blurb on why it's special. Four winners will each receive an exclusive, limited-edition Gucci bag, and their spot will be featured on www.guccilovesny.com. The contest ends February 28, so start snapping!

The RED DRESS EVENT is a charity fashion show featuring celebrities wearing special red dresses designed by fashion biggest names. Proceeds from the show go to support the National Heart Disease Association. Heart disease is one of the leading killers in American women. The boys on STYLE...

Kareem: If i had to gauge it, I would say "street smart". I know...its not a creative title (lol) but, it describes it well. I dress like everyone else my age but, I can afford better quality if anything.
T-shirts are t-shirts but, I find myself opting for more merino wool sweaters from the Caucus mountains (lol), chunky knits and Wonka Hats(thats dem Russian joints for those not in the know). I'm still not wearing shoes, but the footwear has stepped up to better grades of leather & suede. Nothing too exotic though. If anything, my style is only now beginning to emerge, so i'll have to see where its headed. Ask me in 2 years.

Manhattan: I have the "low key, hung over from the night before, new heart-throb in the tabloid" style. Its kinda like you might find me in Soho trying not to get recognized at my hole-in the wall dominican spot on the corner of Spring St. (lol). But, when its time to clean up i'm red carpet all the way. I focus alot on well tailored garments that flatter the build even if u sag your pants for the realness.

In the streets...

Manhattan: If you catch me around town, i'm probably rocking L&D like a billboard, with some hard blue Levi denims. But, the kick game, coat game and hat game is where I like to step it up a bit. I really like my Trovata Peacoat (hood sophisticato). But, you can always tell a real L&D Boy with the big gold chain to kick it out. Thats how I roll!

Reem: The hard blues, L&D all day, the G-star knit skull on tilt with the Peter Pan flip and the big chain. Thats how I roll!

Of course I'm an NYSD Sweetheart, I'm...

Reem: ...an L&D Boy. Last of the Cuban Linx Era. Plus I keep the intelligent convo.

Manhattan: People pick up what you put out. To quote Prince.. "Honey I know times are changing. Its time we all reach out for something new. That means you too. U say you want a leader, but you can't seem to make up your mind. I think you better close it..."

What Up!!!

It's your girl Radio Rose Around The Way Girl's H.B.I.C. You may be accustomed to my sassy celeb trash talking/fashion blogging, so this month, I'm happy to show some love to my girls at NYSD and of course put y'all on to the NEW NEW! If you didn't know I hustle hard as a freelance stylist in NY. I've been doing editorials for about 4 years with some of your favorite magazines like Complex, Missbehave, LTD, Odd at Large, Dazed and Confused, The Fader and Trace. I've styled lookbooks for labels such as Married to the Mob as well as a few well respected Downtown and Japanese designers. I do some freelance writing for Missbehave Magazine and I'm also the newly appointed Fashion Director for Mass Appeal Magazine. Whew! What a mouthful!! Basically I dive into all the arts so my style evokes whatever I happen to feel currently most comfortable in. I love trapeze dresses that can hide those special places (and they're great whenever my inner fat girl calls and I want to binge on banana pudding and lattes). I'm a midget (5'3") so heels are a must but, when I'm running through the city for showroom pulls and market appointments they ain't cutting it. So I opt for cute flat boots or the hoodrat staple...hi-tops. I guess if I had to sum it up my style is somewhere in between an R&B Diva like Chaka Khan (I love big lioness hair) and Kilolo from Martin (I be wearing my dolphins).

As a soldier in the fashion game I get to see alot trends before hand. And as of late I've gotten to witness alot of pretty established streetwear brands graduating to full fledged contemporary lines proving that fashion always begins in the streets. There are also plenty of new designers that are reminiscent of the happy go lucky vivid brightly colored patterns that the Japanese were well known for. I plan on putting y'all on to some of the people and places that will truly change the game.

Sneaker Saturday has returned after a week off with some of NYSD's favorite picks for the week. For a more relaxed chic beach bum look check out these DC Gatsby x Ben G kicks. A little different than our usual high top/dunk picks but definitely a cute addition for any diverse collector.

The art that is sneakers finds it way to the Sneaker Saturday Review this week with these magnificently detailed DC x SSUR Hightops. Russian born designer Ruslan Karablin tells the story of his migration to the states through these sweet kicks. Peep the bottom which represents his boat trip from Russia to his new Brooklyn Coney Island residence.

How special are these? For the ladies Nike released these dope Court Force High & Blazer Low Bambi inspired kicks. A mixture of premium denim, leather and deer fur.

And wrapping up yesterday's Math Class lesson...but, for the ladies here are some sweet linen white and grapefruit leather Nike SB Blazers...

NYSD Sweetheart's (hint) No 1's DONE IT RIGHT are at it again! When we posted this flyer last week we neglected to inform you WHY you SHOULD come out TOMORROW night! If you aren't familiar with the ladies of No 1's DONE IT RIGHT, they are a bunch of dope young event planners who donate the proceeds earned from their events to serve both international and domestic needs. Tomorrow's event is going down at Boucarou and is also a double celebration for NYSD's boy PAN!

NYSD Guest Editor kicks off the week with some insight on his personal style...

This is your boy D-R-A-K-E teaming up with NYSD. My personal style is a mix between hip-hop classic and comfort. It's also fun at the same time. Depending on where I'm going one could be more dominate. I have a lot of jeans in my closet and countless pairs of shoes. I like to try and get things that are different that no one else has. I wouldn't say I'm a trendsetter but I definitely like to be different. Events that require more business oriented dress I go for the collared shirts and pants. Something that's classic but easy to put together and easy to add a touch of my own personality into. I think that rap & hip hop help form my style because it's so free spirited. It allows me get dressed in the morning and walk out the house and make a statement at the same time. There are so many different pieces that can be put together to say so many different things.

When did you start HSL?
"HOOD STAR LUXURY (HSL) was created by men consumers who'd exhausted the possibility to inspire themselves through the current fashion world. Every time I'd walk into my closet (most people just look), it would take almost 2 hours to put together magic out of a bunch of T-Shirt's, Dark High End Denim and car-note price footwear. After all that, I would get the reaction I paid for, but I wasn't satisfied, I wanted more. So I got with my local hood star duo Julius and Issam. Both these guys always inspired me to dress to impress. But, I wanted my own identity so i created a T-Shirt that represented where I was from and where I wanted to be. Hence came HOOD STAR. Now the LUXURY side of it was Jay's (Julius) idea. It's a more classy look (One I can wear to dinner and not end up escorted to the service pick up area of the restaurant). We put it all together and thats where HOOD STAR LUXURY came from."

Malice & Pusha T of popular Hip Hop duo The Clipse are set to debut their first clothing line this February at the Magic Convention in Las Vegas. PLAY CLOTH according to Pusha T will be " based around the idea of when clothes were collectables." Starting with t-shirts and branching out into denim, sweatshirts and jackets, the line is set to represent "youth and influence" capitalizing on the strategy Pharrell used to brand BBC and IceCream. The line will be available Summer 2008 in select high end streetwear boutiques.

"Although for the first few years, we were bound by the confines of SCHOOL UNIFORMS (lol), I can remember vividly how crazy the girls and I went for accessories especially after seeing CLUELESS The Movie (lol). We'd carry our little patent leather clutch bags we'd taken from our Mom's and fill them with a whole slew of unneccessaries. I remember the summer before JHS we'd all owned about every color JELLIES and matching "TOTAL SHADES". Cece was into dark lipstick and I was into gold lipstick. Its so funny to think about these things now! I think high school is where we really started to live HIP HOP GLAMOUR. I can remember Cece flipping my hair "FARRAH FAUCET" styled and me applying diamonds to her cornrows, lolol, that's going to make her laugh!" - Teneille
